Newcastle upon Tyne’s Metro Radio Arena, Arena Way, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7NA is hosting Celebrities on Ice on 25th and 26th May 2013. Hosted by Christopher Biggins the show will star Dancing on Ice winner Beth Tweddle and other celebrity skaters including Chico, Gareth Thomas and Matt Lapinskas. Ice dancing, acrobatics and circus tricks will also be performed by a host of famous faces, as well as routines by international ice stars.

Adult tickets cost up to £35.45 and children’s tickets are £18.50 each however using the link below you can purchase tickets for both adults and children with 65% discount – just £12.50 each.

5k and 10k Races For Life are being held at Herrington Country Park in Sunderland this Sunday 19th May 2013 where a formidable army of over 3,200 women will race to raise money for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research.

Race for Life’s 10k event starts at 9.30am and the 10k starts at 11.30am.

Concert At The Stadium of Light in Sunderland

Boy band One Direction are to kick off their first-ever international stadium tour with a gig at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 28th May 2014 as part of their Where We Are world tour. Tickets go on sale from next Saturday 25th May 2013.

Sunderland’s Stadium of Light is one of only four UK venue’s to host the boys, the others are Manchester’s Ethiad Stadium, Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Wembley Stadium, London.

Their gig, which marks a great coup for the Stadium of Light, could well be the fastest-selling ever there, following the likes of Take That, Coldplay, Kings of Leon and Pink, who have already played there, with Rihanna, Bon Jovi and North East Live set to take the venue by storm this summer.

One Direction, who have sold over 14 million singles and 8 million albums, have already amassed two BRIT Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards in their fledgling career. They achieved instant success in the UK following on from their stint on X Factor in 2010, the group also took the US by storm, with their last album debuting at number one in the Billboard 200, becoming the first boy band in US chart history to land two number one albums in a calendar year.

Tickets for what is anticipated to be the biggest concert ever staged at the Stadium of Light, will go on sale from 10am on Saturday 25th May 2013 and are priced from £42.50 (plus booking fee). You can buy them online here.

Sound Waves 2013 has confirmed McFly will headline the live concert at Bents Park, South Shields on Sunday 25th August 2013. McFly’s hits include Five Colours in Her Hair, All About You, Star Girl and Shine a Light. McFly are the first act to be officially announced with X Factor winner Joe McElderry also confirmed.

More big name acts are promised to be confirmed over the coming weeks. Tickets for Sound Waves 2013 are priced at £20 each and are available from The Customs House, South Shields in person, by telephone or online at www.customshouse.co.uk. Tickets can also be purchased via Ticketmaster here.

Sunderland Marathon of the North Runners Crossing Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland

The Marathon of The North is a brand new marathon to be held annually in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. Sunderland City Council and the organisers of the Sunderland City 10K have scheduled ‘The Marathon Of The North’ to take place on Sunday 28th April 2013. You can see a short video of the Sunderland City 10K here…

The Marathon of the North course starts and finishes at the Stadium of Light on the north bank of the river Wear. After crossing the Wearmouth Bridge, the route follows the first few kilometres of the Sunderland City 10K course. The first half of the race course is on the south side of the river Wear it is predominantly flat with few noticeable gradients and includes a circuit of picturesque Barnes Park. At the halfway mark the route returns back across the Wearmouth Bridge and the last ten miles is run adjacent to the river Wear and Roker and Seaburn beaches.
