Arriving by Tyne & Wear Metro? Our nearest Metro station is South Shields (on the yellow line).
South Shields Metro Station is located in the middle of South Shields' main shopping area, King Street. The Metro journey to/from Newcastle Central Station takes approximately 20 minutes; to/from Newcastle International Airport takes approximately 55 minutes. Annie's Guest House is about an 8 minutes walk from South Shields Metro Station.
At the foot of the Metro Station stairs, turn right onto the King Street shopping area. Head east towards the sea front and you will pass an ASDA supermarket on the left with a small roundabout a little further ahead. Take the 3rd exit at this roundabout (right onto Anderson Street) and continue until you reach another small roundabout. Continue straight ahead at this roundabout and the junction ahead of you is Beach Road. Turn left here (onto Beach Road) and continue East towards the sea front. After a couple of minutes walk you'll see Annie's at 106 on the right hand side. We have a sign at the gate post and a larger lit sign next to our front door.
The Newcastle Central Metro timetable (for those arriving by train to Newcastle Central Station) can be found here and you can download the full timetable as a pdf document here.
A useful summary of first and last journeys and the frequency of trains throughout the day is shown here:

For a return journey to Newcastle Central the timetable is here (St. James' is the stop after Central Station). You can download the full South Shields timetable here.
Tyne & Wear Metro Ticket prices are as follows (correct January 2009) - Newcastle Central Station/Newcastle International Airport to South Shields single journey is £2.90 (after 9am), going back into Newcastle that day? Get a return ticket for £3.80. Back to South Shields after that? Don't buy another single, initially buy a DaySaver for £3.90 (allows a full day of Metro travel). An evening DaySaver is £2.30 (after 6pm). A child's (under 15) DaySaver is £1.10. Also available are WednesDaySaver's (only on Wednesdays!) for £2.70 (after 9am). Note that this is cheaper than the Newcastle Central Station/Newcastle International Airport to South Shields single fare! Also the SunDaySaver which covers upto four people (minimum of two children) for £3.90 (less than a pound each!) for a full days' Metro travel, you can also use this as a couple or as two adults with one child. More information on weekly passes and transfares can be downloaded here (pdf document).

This map marking out the route from South Shields Metro station (on the left) to Annie's Guest House (on the right) might be helpful for those walking to us from the station. (Right-click will allow you to save and/or print this map in higher quality than appears on the screen).

Alternatively if your bags are too numerous and/or heavy you can easily take a taxi from the rank outside the Metro station. Because it's such a short journey this will only cost you a few pounds. (Right-click will allow you to save and/or print this map in higher quality than appears on the screen).

Finally, if you're running late (or early!) and your arrival time changes significantly then please give us a call to let us know - have a safe journey.
