A new open top bus service launched on Monday making it quicker and easier for people to travel between South Shields town centre and the sea front over the summer. The flyer for the new bus service can be seen below…
An adult single fare is £1.15 or £1.30 for a full journey between the Market and New Crown pub adjacent to Westoe Crown Village at the bottom of Mowbray Road. Child single tickets cost 60p with a Nexus Under 16 card or £1.10 for all day. All concessions and Network Travel tickets are accepted along with all other Stagecoach tickets such as Dayrider, Megarider and Transfers.
The service will run every day during the six weeks holidays until Sunday 1st September, then on weekends up to and including Sunday 3rd November. The bus will also operate daily between 28th October and 3rd November.
The full route of the South Shields shuttle bus is: Church Way, Chapter Row, Keppel Street, Fowler Street, Winchester Street, Anderson Street, Ocean Road, Sea Road before turning at the New Crown pub roundabout at the bottom of Mowbray Road adjacent to Westoe Crown Village. Sandhaven beach at the bottom of the street from our bed and breakfast accommodation in South Shields has again been awarded Keep Britain Tidy’s Blue Flag award for 2013 in recognition of it meeting the highest international standard of water quality. Sandhaven beach is one of only four North East beaches to receive the award this year. The other North East beaches to receive the Blug Flag award were Tynemouth Longsands, King Edwards Bay and Whitley Bay.
Additionally Sandhaven beach received a Seaside Award in acknowledgement of its facilities and litter-free and safe environment. Across the country, 55 beaches were awarded a Blue Flag, while 113 picked up the new Seaside Award.
This year, the Blue Flag entrants had to meet an even stricter water quality standard to qualify for the coveted, globally recognised award.

Sound Waves 2013 has confirmed McFly will headline the live concert at Bents Park, South Shields on Sunday 25th August 2013. McFly’s hits include Five Colours in Her Hair, All About You, Star Girl and Shine a Light. McFly are the first act to be officially announced with X Factor winner Joe McElderry also confirmed.
