Sunderland<\/u><\/a>’s 10K and half marathon take place this Sunday.<\/p>\n

If you are staying at our bed and breakfast accommodation and taking part or plan on visiting Sunderland<\/u><\/a> on Sunday we have the race route and information here to help plan your day.<\/p>\n

The start and finish of the 10K is at Keel Square<\/u><\/a> opposite the old Vaux Brewery site.<\/p>\n

The first part of the race is a 2K loop around Sunderland<\/u><\/a> city centre before reaching Wearmouth Bridge<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Next runners pass the University of Sunderland<\/u><\/a>’s Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s<\/u><\/a> and run alongside the River Wear<\/u><\/a>, passing the National Glass Centre<\/u><\/a> before gently rising up the path to then drop down again toward Sunderland Marina<\/u><\/a> in Roker<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sunderland Marina<\/u><\/a> is the location of the half way point of the 10K route.<\/p>\n

Runners then follow a path along Marine Walk<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

A left turn leads into Roker Park<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Roker Park<\/u><\/a>’s bandstand is the 6K mark.<\/p>\n

The race route then loops back onto Roker Terrace<\/u><\/a> before a flat 2K run back to Wearmouth Bridge<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finally, a right turn onto St Mary’s Way<\/u><\/a> leads to the finish line at Keel Square<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Sunderland<\/a><\/center><\/p>\n

The Sunderland<\/u><\/a> City Half Marathon and start and finish is also at Keel Square<\/u><\/a> opposite the old Vaux Brewery site.<\/p>\n

The first mile of the half marathon passes through the Sunniside<\/u><\/a> area of Sunderland<\/u><\/a> city centre.<\/p>\n

A left turn at approximately 3.5 miles takes the course down Toward Road<\/u><\/a> past Mowbray Park<\/u><\/a> and back to the city centre area before heading back towards Ryhope Road<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The turnaround point is just before The Alexandra<\/u><\/a> pub on Queen Alexandra Road<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The halfway point is on the return stretch of Ryhope Road<\/u><\/a> before it reaches Backhouse Park<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Next, runners travel along Burdon Road<\/u><\/a> back to Wearmouth Bridge<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

At Wearmouth Bridge<\/u><\/a> there is approximately 4.5 miles left to the finish.<\/p>\n

Runners then travel along Dame Dorothy Street<\/u><\/a>, circumnavigating St Peter\u2019s Church<\/u><\/a> before heading to the coast and following the sea front along Roker Terrace<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Upon entering Roker Park<\/u><\/a> there are only 2.6 miles left to complete and the route returns to cross Wearmouth Bridge<\/u><\/a> via Dame Dorothy Street<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The finish line is at St Mary’s Way<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n
