Directions To Annie's Guest House From Newcastle upon Tyne by Regional Bus Service
There are three bus/coach station/pick-up/drop-off points in Newcastle upon Tyne depending on the bus/coach operator you travel with.
Regional bus services operated by Arriva Northumberland, Nexus, Stagecoach and Go Ahead use either the Eldon Square Bus Station or the adjacent Haymarket Bus Station on the corner of Percy Street and Saint Mary's Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7PF.
Upon arrival at Eldon Square or Haymarket Bus Station, Newcastle upon Tyne we recommend you take the Metro (train) service to South Shields. You'll need to head right towards the multi-storey car park and walk straight ahead down Percy Street. At the junction with Blackett Street turn left. The entrance to Monument Metro station is on the right hand side of the street.
Here is a map of the walking route to help you:
Whilst Haymarket Metro Station is closer to the Haymarket Bus Station the yellow line to South Shields does not run to/from Haymarket Metro Station. If you opt to start your Metro journey to South Shields from Haymarket Metro station you will need to change trains (onto a yellow line South Shields-bound train) at either Monument or Central Station.
Once you have arrived at Monument Metro Station you need to board a yellow line train to South Shields.
Detailed timetable information for this route can be found here.
Tyne & Wear Metro ticket prices (correct January 2015) are as follows...
Monument Metro Station to South Shields - single (one-way) journey adult ticket costs £3.40. If you will be returning to Newcastle upon Tyne later that day we recommend that you initially buy an adult DaySaver ticket for £4.60 which allows a full day of Tyne & Wear Metro travel.
A child's single fare is 80p and a child's DaySaver ticket (under 15, proof of age required for over 12's) is £1.20.
(For returning visitors to the North East who may be wondering about off-peak/peak time tickets, off-peak/peak daysavers and return tickets - Tyne & Wear Metro revised it's ticket pricing structure in January 2013. Return and peak/off-peak ticket pricing is no more. It's now just a single fare or DaySaver with no peak or off-peak times).
Comprehensive ticket pricing information, a Metro zone map and a video on how to use the Metro ticket machines can be found on this page of our website: Tyne and Wear Metro.
Once you have arrived at South Shields Metro station our guest house is a ten minute walk from South Shields Metro station. Take the bus station exit from the Metro station (as opposed to the King Street exit), turn left and walk towards the Fowler Street shopping area of South Shields. At Fowler Street turn to your right and follow the road straight up to a set of traffic lights. These traffic lights are the start of Beach Road. Turn left at the traffic lights and walk along Beach Road, crossing straight over the small roundabout. We are door number 106 on the right hand side of the street, half way along Beach Road.
This map marking out the route from South Shields Metro station (on the top left of the image) to Annie's Guest House (on the right side of the image) might be helpful for those walking to us from the station.
Alternatively, if your bags are too numerous and/or heavy you can easily take a taxi from the rank outside the Metro station. Because it's such a short journey this will only cost you a few pounds.
Please take a note of our phone number and if you are feeling a little lost then don't hesitate to give us a call and we can give you some directions.
Finally, if you're running late (or early!) and your arrival time changes significantly then please give us a call to let us know - our check-in is 3pm until 10pm - have a safe journey.
