Plans have been approved to create a new £450 million car battery “gigafactory” adjacent to Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK in Sunderland.
Envision AESC Sunderland is a new car battery manufacturing plant set to be built in 2022 with battery production due to begin in 2024.
The Envision AESC Sunderland factory will create 750 jobs.
Envision AESC Sunderland will be located immediately North East of Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK.
The new factory will be south of the new International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP), separated by Washington Road.
International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) is a new 150 hectare manufacturing park currently in phase one of development.

Upon completion the International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) will contain over 390,000 m2 of industrial floorspace.
