Sunderland Stadium of Light Concert Public Transport

Home > Tyne & Wear > Sunderland > Stadium of Light

The much anticipated One Direction concert at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light is taking place next week on Wednesday 28th May 2014.

One Direction Concert At The Stadium of Light In Sunderland SR5 1SU

Guests who have booked to stay with us are advised to take public transport to and from the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

The quickest and easiest method is using the #35 bus service which you can board at the bottom of our street on Westoe Road and disembark at The Wheatsheaf pub at bottom of Newcastle Road in Sunderland – two minutes walk from the Stadium of Light.

Full information on this bus route including it’s timetable can be found here New Sunderland to South Shields Bus Timetable.

The map below shows the Stadium of Light and its immediate surrounding area.

The #35 bus stop is on the right side of the map between the two light blue rectangles – closer than the Stadium of Light Metro Station is to the stadium.

If you are staying with us for any concert at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland then we highly recommend that you use the #35 bus service there and back.

We have recommended this method of travelling to and from the Stadium of Light to all our previous guests who have attended concerts at the Stadium of Light and they concur that it is the best way to and from the stadium…

Review of Accommodation For Concert at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland

Jewel in the Crown! What a smashing little find! We were going to a concert with a day or so off tagged on. Annie’s was the best recommended in the area, so we went for it. Couldn’t have been better. Spick and span, spotlessly clean. Enthusiastic and friendly welcome from Linda. I imagine that she can tell from the booking date and the ticket release dates why we were there – and she dispensed great advice about how best to travel. Saved us hours – we bumped into another couple the following day at TAOTN (The Angel of the North) who stayed elsewhere and did the Metro, it took them half the night to get back. It’s also quiet. Very quiet. Pull down the blackout blind and you may just miss breakfast! South Shields itself offers a wide variety of evening food and entertainment, and again our host had all the details to hand. All within walking distance in a nice quiet part of town. Annie cooks a fine breakfast – one of the best. Scrambled egg is the acid test and she passes with flying colours. Just superb. I’d be surprised if I didn’t stay again very shortly as I travel to that part of the country quite often. 6/6

Over 50,000 fans will be in the audience to see One Direction and the Stadium of Light advises fans to plan their journey to and from the stadium carefully and arrive well in advance of the show as entry points will be extremely busy.

To ensure the safety of everyone attending, there will be no queuing permitted in the days leading up to the concert.

External courtyard areas at the Stadium of Light will open after 2:30pm, with the main stadium gates open from 5pm.

One Direction’s support act, 5 Seconds of Summer are set to take to the stage at 6:50pm, with One Direction due on at approximately 8:15pm.

No items of food or drink are permitted to be brought into the venue.

Catering outlets will be available both in the external courtyard and the stadium concourses offering a range of items including pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, wraps and soft drinks.

A “Challenge 25” protocol operates at the Stadium of Light for anyone wishing to purchase alcohol – anyone who appears to be under the age of 25, will be asked to provide proof of age.

Approach roads to the stadium will be closed on show day to ensure the safety of the large numbers of pedestrians and there is no parking or access available at the stadium itself or the surrounding residential areas.

The key timings for the One Direction concert Wednesday 28th May 2014 at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland are…

2:30pm External courtyards open
4:30pm Hospitality entrances open
5pm Stadium gates open
6:50pm 5 Seconds of Summer on stage
8:15pm One Direction on stage
10pm Show ends (approximate time)
