James Morrison Mouth of the Tyne Festival 2013

BRIT award winner James Morrison has been announced today as one of the headline acts for this year’s Mouth of the Tyne Festival. Three years after his last show at Tynemouth Priory and Castle sold out in record time, the popular solo artist is set to return this summer.

Mouth of the Tyne Festival stage

Chart-topping James is playing only a handful of dates this year and has chosen the Tynemouth setting to perform hits from his three platinum albums on Saturday 13th July 2013. Tickets cost £25 each plus booking fee go on sale from 9am on Thursday 7th March on the TicketMaster website. North Tyneside Elected Mayor, Linda Arkley said: “I am delighted to welcome James Morrison back to North Tyneside. Securing another high calibre music act for a sixth consecutive year is testament to the event being established as one of the North’s favourite summer festivals. Tourism is worth £243million to the borough’s economy and this festival is a key event in our calendar.”

Best known for the hits ‘You Give Me Something’, ‘Wonderful World’, ‘You Make It Real’ and ‘I Won’t Let You Go’, Warwickshire-born James Morrison is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist who has enjoyed chart-topping success since his rise to fame in 2006.

As well as James Morrison, Tynemouth Priory and Castle has played host to a number of big name artists over the past few years including The Wanted, McFly, The Script, Scouting for Girls and Beverley Knight. Supported this year by Kier North Tyneside, the four-day festival features live music, theatrical entertainment and special one-off performances. Further details of the weekend’s programme of acts will be announced soon.

The Shields Ferry Logo

Passengers arriving at North Shields this morning can have the pleasure of looking at our resident seal which has been here since yesterday afternoon. We have been assured by the RSPCA that she is fine and just resting, she can be seen lying on the old slipway to the left hand side of the Bridge. Sorry but she is camera shy.

A picture of the seal…

Home > Tyne & Wear > Newcastle upon Tyne > Blog: HMS Dauntless Visits Tyneside

Newcastle’s affiliated warship, HMS Dauntless, has berthed at North Shields for a weekend of events on Tyneside. The 152m long Type 45 destroyer vessel joined the Royal Navy fleet in November 2010 and is visiting Newcastle, her affiliated city. The public will get the chance to have a look around on Sunday when there will also be a parade.

The Royal Navy had to apologise after hundreds of visitors were turned away from an open day in Great Yarmouth after the event was “hugely oversubscribed”.

We’ve added a couple of videos about the visit to our YouTube page here.
