Arbeia Festival takes place this weekend – Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August 2018, entry is free.
Arbeia Roman Fort was built in around AD160 and once guarded the entrance to the River Tyne and played an essential role in the mighty Roman frontier system. Arbeia Roman Fort is located four miles east of the end of Hadrian’s Wall at South Shields and is a World Heritage Site. It was originally built to house a garrison and soon became the military supply base for the seventeen forts along Hadrian’s Wall.
Visitors to Arbeia Roman Fort this weekend can experience a Roman-themed market selling heritage wares, historical re-enactments, battle and artisan demonstrations, have-a-go crafts, activities and music. Entry is free.
