NewcastleGateshead Pocket Guide 2015

Home > Tyne & Wear > Newcastle upon Tyne

The 2015 pocket guidebook for Newcastle upon Tyne is out.

NewcastleGateshead Pocket Guide 2015 Cover

This 68 page guide to north East England is a great resource to use when planning a visit to Tyne & Wear.

The NewcastleGateshead pocket guide includes maps and public transport information as well as comprehensive information about all the popular tourist attractions in North East England.

Highlights of the guide include…

Newcastle Castle
Standing on the site of the fortress from which the city takes its name, Newcastle Castle has one of the finest surviving medieval castle keeps in Britain and offers breath taking views from its rooftop.

Quayside and Bridges
Enjoy a stroll along the picturesque Quayside and take in views of our seven bridges spanning the River Tyne. The once industrial area has been given a new lease of life thanks to landmark buildings, laid-back pubs, trendy bars and stylish restaurants.

Angel of the North
At 54m wide and 20m high, it’s hard to miss Sir Antony Gormley’s iconic work of public art, dominating the skyline as you approach from the South. A proud, awe-inspiring sight.

BALTIC & Sage Gateshead
Iconic buildings and cultural jewels in the Quayside’s crown, BALTIC’s ever-changing calendar of contemporary art exhibitions and Sage Gateshead’s enviable programme of live music events provide artistic inspiration for all tastes.

Grey Street & Grainger Town
Elegant Grey Street in Grainger Town was voted Britain’s finest street by Radio 4 listeners thanks to its magnificently preserved Georgian architecture. The historic heart of the city also houses the Victorian Grainger Market and the Grade I listed Theatre Royal.

Great North Museum Hancock
Explore natural history and ancient civilisations, world cultures and amazing geological and archaeological collections. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the planetarium, life-sized T-Rex skeleton and virtual Hadrian’s Wall. Changing exhibitions and regular lectures will educate and fascinate.

Life Science Centre
The award-winning Life Science Centre brings learning to life for a fun family day out. The centre offers excellent exhibitions, a 4D motion simulator ride, live science shows, the North’s biggest planetarium and even an outdoor ice skating rink during the winter.

Intu Metrocentre
Europe’s largest indoor shopping and leisure complex is packed with high street favourites, designer names, quirky boutiques, an IMAX cinema and 60 restaurants. Shopping has never been so much fun!

St James’ Park
Home of the Magpies, St James’ Park’s white cantilever roof, the largest in Europe, is visible across the city. Take in a match or visit for a tour. Howay the lads!

The Ouseburn
Home to Seven Stories National Centre for Children’s Books and Ouseburn Farm, the tranquil Ouseburn Valley is a favourite with families during the day. As the clock ticks round, it becomes a mecca for music and real ale lovers with venues including The Cluny and The Tyne Bar offering great live music.

We highly recommend that you download a copy of the guide for any visit to the North East.
